Where we are

Our head office is in IJmuiden and from there KNRM administers its 42 lifeboat stations and the volunteers.

Lifeboat stations are supported by the main organisation in a variety of fields: rescuing, safety, technology, education, communication and fund-raising.

This way the lifeboat stations can focus on their core task: rescuing people.

Once a year the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM in Dutch = Koninklijke Nederlandse Redding Maatschappij) organises its national open day.

A great opportunity to actively get to know more about the work, the professional volunteers and equipment of KNRM.

KNRM is all about volunteers. Without the 1,100 volunteers the rescuing activities could not take place.

Many have been committed to their lifeboat stations with heart and soul for years. They are ready 365 days a year. Not every day to perform rescues, but they are available 24 hours a day. For real rescues and thankful assistance.

In 2012 the National Lifeboat Day (Nationale Reddingbootdag) will take place on the 28th of April.
