Support us

KNRM is an independent, unsubsidised organisation that provides help free of charge at sea and on open water.

The professional volunteers are unable to do their work without your support.

There is a way for everyone to help the Rescue Institution.

Donations to KNRM are often deductible because the Rescue Institution qualifies as an ANBI (“institutions for general benefit”).

Search and Rescue

KNRM rescues and helps wherever necessary on the water and at the coast.

The main tasks when it comes to rescuing and helping people are:
  • Search and Rescue (SAR)
  • Lifeguard (supervising the beach)
  • Coast Guard (KHV in Dutch Kusthulpverlening)
  • Training and practice
Without raising an alarm the lifeboats will not be launched!

All the volunteering crew members wear a pager and will be present at the station within ten minutes. They have permission of their employer for this.

The Coastguard Centre (KWC in Dutch = Kustwachtcentrum) and/or public safety answering points (GMK in Dutch = Gemeenschappelijke meldkamer) of the fire department, police department and ambulance services raise the alarm via the P2000-alarm network.

After the alarm has been raised the crew boards the lifeboat and contacts the Coastguard Centre for details concerning the emergency situation.

The Coastguard Centre coordinates the rescue mission, but the rescue coxswain plays an important role and is authorised to take decisions.

Besides reacting to an alarm raised by the before mentioned authorities, KNRM can also decide itself to send out lifeboats if it’s considered necessary.
